What to Expect
While we approach each pet’s healthcare individually, our initial physical exams will typically follow the same routine. The veterinarian will examine all body systems, from your pets eys and ears, to their lymph nodes, to the tip of their tail, and everything in between! During a physical exam the veterinarian will check and assess your pet’s weight and body condition score, which leads to a discussion about food options and weight management. The vet will listen to your pet’s heart and lungs, and examine their eyes, ears, nose and skin, looking for any changes, infection or allergies. The veterinarian will palpate your pet's abdomen, lymph nodes, limbs and spine to detect any signs of pain or discomfort. During each exam the doctor will also record your pet's vitals such as temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate, as well as their mucous membrane colour and hydration status.
Annual exams give you the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns with the doctor, which may include health, behavoural or training concerns. This is also a great opportunity for the veterinarian to discuss parasite control and prevention for your pet, as well as establishing a indivudal vaccine protocol based on your pet's risk factors. Another popular topic for discussion is dental health, and how we can work together to keep your pet's teeth and mouth as healthy as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns at all, please feel free to ask any of our staff members for advice or recommendations, we will be happy to help in any way we can!
